CHANTILLY, NEAR PARIS.
First held in 1920, the Grand Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is considered to be the ultimate test of any flat racer and is renowned for its international array of famous horses, jockeys, owners and trainers. It is a 12 furlongs race concluding with a heart-stopping 500 meters finishing straight and with no less than 1.6 million euros of prize money resting upon it. For the first time held in Chantilly, this race also attracts the outrageously rich and well-dressed from both the racing world and beyond, making the most of the opportunity to drink large quantities of Champagne and to participate in the hat competition organized by Madame Figaro magazine. The Qatar Arabian World Cup, a kind of world championship for purebreds Arabs is run just after the Arc de Triomphe.
