Christmas glass balls

A little village located in Lorraine, in the Vosges Mountains, Goetzenbruck is said to be the place where, in 1858, a glass blower created the first glass Christmas ornaments because there was a drought and so no fruits to decorate the trees. Throughout December, a few km away, the Meisenthal International Center of Glass Art exhibit glass Christmas glass balls that have been created since this time and ball-making demonstrations by glass-blowers take place several times per day. The Center’s glass museum also hosts an exhibition presenting Christmas balls made of various materials produced in Germany between 1870 and 1930.
