The Golden Age of English Painting

Through a selection of canvases lent by the Tate Britain, this exhibition highlights a key period in the history of painting in England, from the 1760s and the founding the Royal Academy of Arts to 1820. It mainly focuses on three painters : Joshua Reynolds, champion of historical classicism, Thomas Gainsborough who renewed the art of portraiture, and Turner, an outstanding landscape painter and a forefather of Impressionism.
