Focus on the Olmecs

PARIS.
The exhibition “The Olmecs and the civilizations of the Gulf of Mexico” sheds light on the Olmec civilization that flourished in the Gulf of Mexico from 1 600 BC to 100 AC and influenced the Maya and Aztec civilizations. Based on new archeological findings and featuring around 300 monumental sculptures, statues, ceremonial steles, ceramics and jewels, it explores the beliefs, the rituals, the arts, the writing and the legacy of the Olmecs as well as the cultural and economic exchanges they had with their neighbors.
