In November or early December of each year, Paris hosts France’s largest and best wine fair : the Salon des Vins des Vignerons Indépendants. It gathers together nearly 1 000 winemakers as well as eaux-de-vie, Cognac and Armagnac producers who give visitors the opportunity to taste the whole range of their wines and spirits.
 Great wines and bargains
Probably the best place to discover the diversity of the French wine production and find good bottles at moderate price as well as real bargains, this fair attracts connoisseurs, amateurs and thousands of Ile-de-France’s inhabitants who stock up for Christmas and New Year. As a consequence, on Saturday and Sunday the fair is sometimes almost as crowded as the metro at peak hours, so, if you can, go there on the other days. Besides, the choice is so vast that it’s sometimes difficult to decide which wines to taste, mainly for neophytes and people without much time.
