GRANVILLE. MANCHE DEPARTMENT.
Held since 1872, the Carnaval de Granville is the oldest in Western France. At the origin, it was dedicated to fishermen as a sendoff ceremony prior to they leave to go fishing for cod in Newfoundland waters. Nowadays it attracts 120 000 revelers and features several concerts and parades. Taking place on the Sunday, the main one comprises about forty satirical floats and fifteen brass bands.
