As suggested by its name, the Cinemed film festival focuses on the cinema of the Mediterranean basin but also presents films from Portugal, Armenia and countries surrounding the Black Sea. As usual, this 41st edition comprises a long feature, short film and documentary competition as well as the screening of more than 100 films that will be release in the last quarter of 2019 and during the first few months of 2020. This year, the festival pays homage to filmmaker Agnès Varda and the program also includes several premieres, retrospectives dedicated to Italian actress Anna Magnani with the screening of fifteen of her films, to Spanish filmmaker Isaki Lacuesta, to Italian filmmaker, Paolo Virzi, to French filmmaker André Téchiné and to Egyptian producer Mohamed Hefzy, a selection of animated movies and a horror movie night as well as a selection of documentary and short films shot in the Languedoc-Roussillon region during 2019.
Screenings take place at the Corum-Palais des Congrès, at the Centre Rabelais and at the Diagonal, Utopia and Nestor Burma movie theatres.
