Degas at the Opera

On the occasion of the 350th anniversary of the Paris Opera, this exhibition explores how this place became for the painter an incomparable source of inspiration. He sketched the Opera from every angle, from foyer to its private boxes, orchestra pit and rehearsal rooms as well those working there, dancers, singers, musicians and so on. Some of the young ballerinas even became his favorite models and he did many experiments concerning bold perspectives, framing, contrasts of lighting and representation of movement.
