Three days entirely dedicated to Southwest France gastronomy and local products ending with tasty meals showcasing those products. That's the concept of Lot of Saveurs, an event held in Cahors, the Lot Prefecture. Nestled in a bend of the Lot, boasting a rich historical heritage such as the Pont Valentré, a 14th century fortified bridge, the city is a perfect setting for these festivities.
It all starts on Thursday evening with a dinambulatoire evening in various venues all around town where pairs of chefs and winemakers serve dishes and wines being perfect pairings.

Banquet for 2,000 people
Then, on Friday night, a market picnic brings together around twenty producers from the department who sell local delicacies such as Rocamadour goat cheese, grain-fed pork from Southwest France, Périgord walnuts, Quercy farm lamb, foie gras, Quercy melon and so on. Distinctive feature of this market, it comprises an area with tables and barbecues where guests can cook and eat the products they purchased. Then, the evening ends with an outdoor film screening.
On Saturday night, a banquet for 2,000 people is held on the Allées Fenelon. Concocted and prepared by the town’s catering service, the menu comprises melon granita with nuts alcohol and shredded duck, slice of wine bread with walnuts topped with foie gras and onions and apricots compotes, tartiflette made up of rocamadour cheese and grain-fed pork, Quercy black forest cake made up of chocolate sponge cake, mascarpone cheese, cherry, candied nuts and saffron jelly. All this for only €13, Cahors and Coteaux du Quercy wines included.

Gastronomic menu
At the beginning, a new cocktail comprising Malbec wine as one of the ingredients will be served and a free concert will follow the meal. For those who can’t get a seat for this banquet, the avenue de la République will be closed for the occasion and the restaurants lining up this thoroughfare will install terraces where they will serve a special Lot of Saveurs menu.
Lastly, on Sunday night ten of the best chefs from the Lot are divided into teams of two and prepare the “Repas des Chefs”, a gastronomic menu of five dishes accompanied by the best wines of the Cahors AOP.
In addition, activities are offered throughout the weekend. Cooking classes led by chefs. Culinary workshops where participants prepare dishes with chefs and then eat them on the spot. Cooking contest. Courses to learn to cook with leftovers. Children activities. Flea market dedicated to tableware. Cooking and gastronomy debates bringing together chefs, artists and writers. Cookbook fair. Workshops for young and old alike teaching how to create receipt books and decorate tables. Parade led by musicians using instruments made from recycled materials.
