Departure of the Vendée Globe

LES SABLES D’OLONNE, VENDEE.
A non-stop race around the world without assistance that is reserved for solo sailors, the Vendée Globe takes place every four years, starting and finishing in Les Sables-d’Olonne in Vendée. The thirty-three yachts participating in this 9th edition are visible in the port from October 17th and they will move to the start line on November 8th. From 9.30am one boat will leave the pontoons every four minutes and it will take the yachts an average of 25 minutes to sail across the port fairway leading to the ocean. The official race start signal will be given at 1pm. Till November 8th, a 15,000 square-meters village dedicated to the sponsors, the partners, associations and shops is open in the port. Till November 6th it gives free access to the pontoons where are moored the boats.
Open daily from 10am to 8pm, admission free but booking is compulsory.
